What is stomach reduction surgery?

It is a medical intervention aimed at reducing the size of the stomach, helping a person feel full with less food. The most common method is sleeve gastrectomy, where the stomach is reshaped into a “sleeve,” hence the name sleeve gastrectomy. Who can undergo the surgery?

The surgery is recommended for individuals with a body mass index (BMI) over 35, especially if they have accompanying conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, or sleep disorders.

However, if your BMI is between 30–35 and non-surgical methods have not worked in the past, this can also be an indication for surgery.

When do the results appear?

During the first year after surgery, patients lose up to 70% of their excess weight. Most importantly, blood pressure stabilizes, joint pain decreases, blood sugar levels return to normal, and both energy and mobility increase significantly.
