Nasal Septum Surgery (Septoplasty). When to See a Specialist?

Real Case
A patient came to the Vardanants Center of Innovative Medicine with complaints of pain on the left side of the face, a feeling of heaviness, and nasal discharge. During the examination, it was discovered that there was a foreign body (filling material) in the left maxillary sinus, and the deviated nasal septum was blocking its opening.
At Vardanants, septoplasty was performed — an endoscopic surgery with removal of the foreign body. After the procedure, breathing was restored, and the inflammatory processes disappeared.
📌 This case shows that a deviated nasal septum can not only interfere with normal breathing but also cause complications.
Why is it important to straighten the nasal septum?
The nasal septum divides the nasal passages. When it is straight, air flows freely and evenly. When deviated, one passage narrows, making breathing difficult, which may lead to inflammation, oxygen deficiency, headaches, and snoring.
When to see a doctor
✔ Constant breathing difficulties
✔ Snoring
✔ Frequent sinus infections
✔ Recurrent nosebleeds
✔ Combination of functional and aesthetic problems
What is septoplasty?
Septoplasty is a surgical procedure that corrects a deviated nasal septum.
• Duration: about 40–60 minutes
• Performed under anesthesia
• Recovery: 1–2 weeks
• Does not change the appearance of the nose unless combined with rhinoplasty
A deviated nasal septum is not just discomfort. It can lead to chronic inflammation, poor sleep, and oxygen deficiency, which affects quality of life. Septoplasty is an effective and safe solution for restoring normal breathing and improving health.
