Breast Health Before the First Symptoms
Why Is October Pink?
Behind the pink ribbons lies a simple reminder: you don’t have to wait for something to feel wrong before thinking about your breast health.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The disease can develop without noticeable symptoms. Screening helps detect changes at an early stage, when the chances of successful treatment are higher.
When Should You Get Screened?
Starting at age 40, discuss your mammography schedule with your doctor, even if you have no symptoms. Before age 40, the need for and type of examination are determined individually by your doctor, taking into account symptoms, family history, and other risk factors.
If you notice skin redness, a sore, bloody nipple discharge, or skin changes resembling an “orange peel,” don’t wait until your next scheduled screening. Consult a breast specialist.
Screening and Treatment at Vardanants
At Vardanants, the General Electric Senographe Pristina mammography system is used. It operates with a low radiation dose and produces three-dimensional images, helping doctors examine breast tissue and identify changes in detail. If necessary, contrast-enhanced mammography and tissue sampling (biopsy) are also performed.
Not every breast lump is cancerous. Some benign lumps can be removed using a vacuum-assisted technique without a large incision. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, and patients usually return home the same day. This method is available exclusively at Vardanants in Armenia.
This October, make time for yourself, too.
