Breastfeeding is a key component in ensuring the healthiest possible start of every baby’s life. It is the newborn’s first vaccination, the best source of nutrition.

This week and at all times we must support and encourage mothers, for breastfeeding is not just about nutrition, it is also an expression of love, believes our pediatrician Julia Chagharyan.

She emphasizes that breast milk is considered to be the main source of energy and vital elements especially during the first 6 months of life.

• Through breast milk the baby receives important antibodies that provide protection from infections.
• Breastfeeding is the main primary aid to avoid dehydration especially during acute respiratory and bowel infections.
• When it comes to breastfeeding, WHO recommends taking into account the baby’s needs, as those needs change every month.
• If possible, breastfeeding should be continued up to two years of age.

This year’s World Breastfeeding Week is dedicated to creating the necessary conditions for breastfeeding at the workplace.
