When is screening necessary?

Effective treatment of breast cancer is possible when it is detected early — before any symptoms appear.

• Women over 40 are recommended to have an annual mammographic screening, regardless of any complaints.
• Women under 40 are advised to undergo periodic sonographic (ultrasound) examinations.

If you notice any of the following complains, do not wait for your routine check-up — consult a mammologist immediately:
a palpable lump in the breast,
redness of the skin or ulceration,
bloody nipple discharge,
changes in the skin (similar to “limon peel”).
